After my last article, I tried to come up with a subject that would make one laugh rather than cry. Granted I am no comedian by any means. However, I think I did find a subject that most people could relate to. Seeing how Mother's Day was the basis of last month's article, I found it only fair to base this article on Father's Day. You may ask how in the world taking time out to recognize Father's could in any way make one laugh. Ahhh, my only answer would be that you do not know my father. A funny character he is, my father. My dad is one that never let us chew gum around him because we would pop bubbles. We couldn't eat suckers around him because we made the loudest smacking noises one has ever heard. We couldn't eat chips or ice or anything crunchy for that matter, because the noice grated his nerves. If we did get to eat chips, we had to put the WHOLE chip in our mouth, close our mouth, and then chew it softly. That was impossible to us, seeming that most of the chips were three times bigger than our mouths. **laughing** He'd give us this look that said if we didn't stop smacking, or chomping, or making any kind of annoying noise, we'd be in BIG trouble. We always made sure we were chewing everything with our mouths closed. Now Dad really isn't as horrible as it sounds. There were "some" things we could do. We just couldn't make any noises while doing whatever we wanted to do. My father is one who can only swim by way of dog paddling. I don't think I've ever seen him go under water. (This is probably where I get my fear of water from). My father is a pack-rat...he keeps EVERYTHING. I'm not kidding. I think my dad has every toy he ever grew up with packed away somewhere. He's always been a Southern Gospel fan, and we've got the vinyl records to prove that. My dad is one of those guys you would see out in public with really white legs wearing white socks and black shoes, thinking he was in style. He is also one of those people who forwards those ever so annoying little jokes that only he thinks is funny, not to mention he tells the world's corniest jokes on stage. Not only is Dad very comical, he is the romantic one of the family, always buying cards for Mom on Valentine's Day, Birthday's, Anniversary, etc. He'd write little poems to her. He's always been the protector, the preacher, the conscience, and anything else we need him to be. No one is as big, powerful, or gentle as my Daddy. I can remember as a youngster always knowing that whatever happened, my Daddy could handle the problem. For instance, when I was a child, I remember dad frying some squash late at night in our trailor when a grease fire suddenly started. Dad was calm enough to throw the pan upside down on the floor, grab a piece of fabric laying around and put the fire out. Needless to say my little brother wasn't too happy when he found out it was his favorite shirt my dad used to put the fire out. Of course, Mom got a new kitchen floor out of the deal. I've always been a Daddy's Girl. Somehow I thought I'd grow out of that, but it doesn't seem to be the case. He's still Daddy to me. He's the one who carried me to the doctor when I foolishly fell off my bike and "had a hole in my knee". Had to get 3 whole stitches. Not to mention sitting in the emergency room for 9 hours for just a little cyst. Never missed a band concert, recital, or play. Always giving advice about my singing, teaching me everything I know. In a nutshell, my father is a Godly man who knows how to take care of his family. He's the prime example of what a father should be. Of course, I'm a little partial. There's no Daddy like my Daddy! Scary enough I find myself getting annoyed at people who eat with their mouth open, or when my brother chews ice next to me. Guess some things are hereditary!

Aww! What a sweet article! Too bad it wasn't mushy like the mother's day one.
I still think that Amy was talking about my dad when she said that Deon didn't like them munching on chips or smacking suckers! Since our dad's are so much alike it must mean that daddy's who don't like munching and smacking are the most AWESOME daddy's in the entire world!!!....and they have the GREATEST kids!
What a neat article & what a wonderful daddy you have. I, too, was a daddy's girl right up until he died when I was 40 some!
Wow! I never knew Deon and I had so much in common. (what a scary thought!) LOL! Mouth noises are probably my biggest pet peave and my daughters were never allowed to chew gum because of it. LOL!
You are a very lucky young woman, Amy Marie, to have the parents that you do. I know that you are grateful from the lovely words you have written about them. I hope they appreciate you as much as you do them.
Great article Amy, I'm planning on it being my kids next bed time story. They are 18,16,and 15 years old.
