Don’t Let Me Lose Sight

"It crossed my mind again just how my life would be, Had the Father's mercy not included me. I saw myself still drifting on a raging sea, Farther out from nowhere; hurting endlessly. And turning back this page of time, it all comes into view, I realize I'm nothing without You." "Don't let me lose sight of who You are, Lord, help me remember my life before You came, May I never forget You sacrifice and Your pain, Don't let me lose sight of who You are." Thus begins one of the best and, I think, most timely songs recently released by The Booth Brothers on their new self-titled Spring Hill project. So often, it is so easy for us to begin to take things for granted. We just go on automatic pilot. We go to church, pay our tithes, live in God's blessing and favor, and while the thought never crosses the conscious mind, we just think it's supposed to be that way, and expect it to always be that way. When we do that, we come close to doing what Paul warned against in Galatians 2:21; that we not frustrate, disregard, or make meaningless the Grace of God. We would never knowingly do that. Yet, when we just go on automatic pilot and do things out of habit, and not out of purpose; out of ceremony and not out of worship, we come close. A friend of mine speaking on "Praise" said one time that he didn't have to "work up" praise. All he had to do was to think of all the God had done for him, the pit He pulled him out of, and what He had done in my friend's life, and the praise just came gushing out. We all need to be like that. Me, included. One of the reason it's so important to have that daily "quiet time" or time alone with the Lord and with His Word, every day, is to keep us focused on what's important. To keep it all fresh in our minds! "My mind can't comprehend the sacrifice You made, To redeem the hurting soul, an awesome price was paid. You endured the suffering and tall all my shame, Faced the bitter agony as they mocked Your name. And when I look back to the cross, I clearly see the truth, I know my life is worthless without You." I know how easy it is to get lost in the day-to-day shuffle of life. But we need to periodically step back, and look back at the cross, look back at the day Jesus reached out His nail-scared hand to us, look back at where we were then, and look back at every blessing, every change, every thing He has done in us to make us who we are today. We need to look back at the cross, and realize He did that for you, and He did that for me. It will change our perspective. It will keep us humble. It will help us stay focused on the most important thing in life: Jesus. He didn't just come to save the world, and I happened to get in on it. No, He paid that price for me. He paid MY price, and He paid YOUR price. And He did it with all the Love that Heaven could bestow. Oh, Lord, no matter how busy life gets; no matter what may happen, Please Lord, don't let me lose sight!
