I got my copy of The Singing News in the mail a few days ago. I always browse it first before any serious reading occurs. As I was looking through it, I saw that my dear friends, Legacy Five, had one of my favorite songs at number 11. The song, Somebody Sing, features that great bass of theirs, Glen Dustin. I began running the words through my mind, and it really hit me. If there was ever a time to sing, it's now. Our world is saturated with fear right now, so much so that it's hard for even Christians to keep the fear at bay. Our world is on the brink of some major events. We're all praying for our nation's leaders. One mistake by any of the "players" right now, and this world would be in chaos. Every news channel on TV is supplying reports on how bad things are, what could go wrong, and instructions on how to react when the seemingly inevitable calamity comes. It gives fear an open door in our hearts and in our lives. Fear is a terrible thing. It can completely immobilize a person. But the Word tells us over and over again, "Fear not!" 1 John 4:18 says, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love." Perfect Love - and we know Who He is - casts out fear. Paul told Timothy, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7) So, we know fear is not of God. We need to resist it, but how? The chorus on "Somebody Sing" says,
"Somebody sing about that old time religion I want to hear it again Somebody preach about the resurrection I want to lift my hands There's an old fashioned moving of the Holy Ghost I want to welcome Him in Let's tell the world about that old time religion Somebody sing it again"If we would follow that, it would keep our mind on the right priorities, and fear would have no opening. If we keep our minds on Jesus, and His plans and purposes, we'll be excited about His soon return, and telling the world about it. We won't have time to cower in fear about uncertainties that may not ever even happen. Instead, we'll be praising and worshiping God and pointing all our friends and neighbors, and those God puts in our path, to Him. What a better way to spend our time!! Verse 2:
"When two or three are gathered the Spirit is there In never-ending saving power All we have to do is lift our hearts to the Lord Revival can happen any hour Somebody stand up and testify Tell the old, old story again The God we serve has never changed He's the same today as He was then."The God we serve has never changed. He's the same today as He was then!! Praise God, we need to keep that fresh in our mind. He hasn't changed. He still delivers. He still heals. He still provides. He's still God!!! Hallelujah. If fear does get a grip on you, don't hesitate to run to Psalm 91. Read it, but read it as if it's you saying it. "I will dwell in the shadow of the Almighty." Then the last few verses are what God says about you. Because you put your trust in Him, He says about you, "I will deliver him." Put your name in that! God says "I will deliver Bob." Hallelujah!! And remember that you control what your mind thinks about. So, keep the Word in your mouth, and a song in your heart. Keep your eyes on Jesus and your mind on the plans and purposes of God, and fear can't control you!!
