Ask SoGospelNews - Oct 2003

Welcome to the first edition of what I think is going to be the most exciting section of SoGospelNews. That's right, I think my articles are the best. I used to be conceited, but now I don't have any problems. On with the questions

--------------------

"I am hoping that my questions will be answered by the Crabb Family before October 1. However, since nothing has been mentioned about Terah's absence, that I have seen or heard anyway, I was hoping to get some insight as to why she left. And is Jon still driving the bus?
I'm sure this will probably be your most requested item.
Thank you for such an informative web page. I grew up in the Piedmont area of North Carolina and would attend gospel singings all of the time. I now live in Metro Atlanta and gospel singings are a rarity. Your page keeps me up to date about SGM.
Looking to Him,
Terri Lincoln"

ANSWER: Thanks Terri for the kind comments. It's nice to know we have at least one fan in the Metro Atlanta area. And yes, you are correct, this was the most asked question, and could possibly hold that honor for a while now, that is until we break the news that the Gaither Vocal Band is breaking up. OK. That's not true. I just made that up.

About Terah: Yes it's true. Terah and Jon have both left the Crabb Family indefinitely. It was totally Terah's decision to come off the road in order to spend time with her husband. Due to the fact that they ARE newlyweds, this seems like a reasonable reason to me. However, the Crabb Family want to let their fans know that Terah did not leave on bad terms and that she is welcome to come back whenever she wants.

---------------------

"Hello,

Where would be a good place to go to find older Hinson's and/or Jeff and Sheri Easter tapes or CDs? I am up here in Canada, more specifically Ottawa, Ontario. You may want to suggest doing that Online, but I am not disposed to giving out a credit card number over the Internet. In other words, have you got any Canadian connections?
Any or all information would be greatly appreciated. Praise God.

Andy Sadler"

ANSWER: Well Andy, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unless there are some nice used CD shops that specialize in older Southern Gospel tapes and CDs up there in Canada, you're out of luck. Unfortunately, the only places that I can recommend are Ebay.com, which utilizes online credit card use, so that's out, or good friend of SoGospelNews, Mr. Harold Timmons of The Gospel Gallery. Harold has more old tapes and CDs and records (GASP! Yes, even records) of Gospel artists that I've ever seen. He's a nice fellow, and he even gave me an old-school Fernando Ortega (he's an inspirational based Christian artist for those of you contemporary-challenged readers out there) CD for free at NQC. I recommend you getting in touch with Harold, and I'm sure he will be happy to work out something with you. You can email him at harold@gospelgallery.com .

--------------------

"WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE CITY AND AIRPORT WHERE THE BLACKWOOD BROS PLANE CRASHED? ISN'T THERE A MEMORIAL THERE? GEORGE"

ANSWER: Hey George, thanks for the question. However, I do have a recommendation for you and all you ALL CAPS lovers out there. Typing in all caps really is bad internet etiquette. I know, it sounds silly. But there really are rules for how to type online. This is one of those. When typing in all caps, one assumes that the person typing is yelling or screaming at the other person. Now George, I don't know you, but you seem like a nice guy with good manners, so I see no reason in assuming you were yelling at me. Let's remember that next time! Thanks!

About your question. Anyone who knows me knows I know absolutely zilch about SG History, which is why I look forward to John Crenshaw's monthly articles across the site in SG History 101. So since John is the be-all-end-all of SG History knowledge, I decided to ask him about that dreaded airplane crash. Well George, you should be happy, because John just so happened to know the answer (like I ever doubted his knowledge). Here is his reply:

"Chris,

Glad to help. The accident was at the airport hanger in Clanton, Alabama on June 30, 1954. I'm about 90% certain there is a memorial to them in Clanton. If I find out more, I'll let you know.

John"

Since John never "let me know", I'm assuming he never found out more, or he just forgot. Go figure. So there you have it, George!

--------------------

"Could you tell me please is Gerald Wolfe any relation to Lanny Wolfe who wrote the song "I Keep Falling In Love With Him"?
I enjoy your website very much. I am from Canada and yours is the most informative website on SG music that I have ever visited.

Thank you,
Curtis Prins"

ANSWER: So Curtis, what's with all the people from Canada writing in? I mean, it's not that I don't like Canadians or anything, but really, we must have quite a few Canadians who visit our site, cause I got quite a few questions from our Northern Neighbors. Anyways, the answer to your questions is simple. No, they are not related. I am glad I was able to put your mind at ease.

---------------------

OK, that's it for this month's issue of Ask SoGospelNews. If I didn't get to your question this month, fear not, there are many more months that are readily available to get to your questions. I mean, really, I'm only one person. I can't work my part time job, look for a full time job in the Public Relations world (hint, hint to anyone taking notice), and answer all of your questions all the time, now can I? OK, maybe I can, but that's not the point!

Until next time!

Chris

Yup Chris is right, Harold has tons of Original Hinsons cd's/cassettes/records! But just to try and help out a little in case he can't, you can also get them through Larry Hinson's web-site. http://www.larryhinsonministries.com :knowitall: And I think there is a way to register with ebay without giving out your credit card info. I can't remember how but I did it smile Big help I know lol

Ah, Chris, Fernando Ortega - glad someone else here knows who he is and enjoys his music. I saw him in concert last year, and it was time and dollars very well spent! We have several of his CDs - Great Christian Music!

Chris. . . I FINALLY found out the answer to your question, so I'll "let you know". . . LOL!

There IS a memorial errected by the residents of Clanton in memory of RW Blackwood, Bill Lyles, and Johnny Ogburn. It is located near the site of the airplane crash. There is a picture of the memorial in the book, "Happy Rhythm". Funny that it would be pictured in a book about the Statesmen, huh?

    Hi Chris:
In your comment as to where one could find older music you stated "Ebay.com, which utilizes online credit card use, so that's out".

My question is that statement about the ebay credit card procedures, or is that how you feel about all online sales.
I have bought books, golf clubs, and music online and if the site is ssl secure I find it safer than having a clerk have a copy or a transaction.

    DeWayne,

Andy Sadler stated in his question to Chris that he wanted to buy older recordings without giving his credit card information online. Chris wasn't making any endorsement one way or the other about using credit cards online. He was just trying to help the person who stipulated that they didn't want to use that form of payment.

Now, in fairness to Ebay sellers, it should be noted for Andy Sadler's info that many of them WILL accept checks or money orders as payment. You just have to carefully check each auction and read the seller's terms for payment.
