Are you listening?

I told Tim that we were meeting my nephew, Jeremy, in Nashville this past Saturday to take him our van. He was going to be a sweetie and install new axles and CV boots – for free I might add – for his dear “Aunt Salse.” Tim said “okay” and went to the parts store, coming home with two boxes containing the axles to do the job. Needing to be at River of Life in Smyrna in the afternoon for a sound check since we were singing the Fan Festival that night, I knew we would have to get moving Saturday morning to take the van. Tim left early to go over to his Mom’s house for a visit. Around 1:30, I realized that we had almost run out of time to take the van to Nashville and get back for a 3:00 PM sound check, so I called to see what he wanted to do. As many of you women might guess, my husband “said” he never heard me tell him about meeting my nephew. Feeling like the prophet Jeremiah, I gave him the “you never listen” speech one more time and went to Nashville without him.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been studying the book of Jeremiah and for the first time the other day, something really stood out. I always pictured Jeremiah as a young man, but in Chapter 25, it says that Jeremiah had been warning the people for twenty-three years – funny… that’s how long Tim and I will be married this coming March. I wonder if Jeremiah felt as old and tired as I do at times…

Were the people listening? Of course not! We all know the nation of Israel was not listening to Jeremiah. I bet if I had told Tim I had grilled steaks, he would have heard me just fine! The people didn’t listen to Jeremiah because he wasn’t telling them what they wanted to hear. They wanted peace, so that was the message they believed. Peace with no responsibility – a good time without obeying God. He was speaking to them through the prophet, but they were just not going to listen.

Are we listening to God – I mean are we really listening? Joyce Martin recorded a song on her solo album that I absolutely love! The lyric goes like this, “I want to live so that a Whisper is Enough.” Can you imagine what this world would be like if Christians lived their lives in a way that when God simply whispers, we are close enough to Him to hear? Can you imagine what the Gospel music industry would be like if everyone lived that way?! Not everyone does though. Those who fail to listen to God – for whatever reason – eventually end up captive to the choices they make, often hurting others in the process.

I want to listen to God and see Him work His perfect will in my life. I want to make the right choices when it comes to my family, to ministry, choosing friends… every decision is important and will have a lasting affect on our lives.
Like our latest single – “It’s a Sure Thing” – says,
“You don’t have to look very far in my past
to see that I’ve wasted time on some things that won’t last,
I’m not proud of some of the choices I’ve made.
But my mind’s made up now and I’m on the right track
I’ve put my hand to the plow and I’m not looking back
The cross made the way the price has been paid
IT’S A SURE THING!

“God, please stay close enough to me and keep me close enough to You so that a Whisper is Enough.”

till next time…
Sally

Hey Guys - loved seeing you on Sunday in Ft Walton Beach....as usual, you were a lot of fun and tears. I vowed NOT cry if Tim did "Too Much to Gain to Lose". Hearing other people sing it don't make me cry, so "this time" I would be strong - well so much for that - "this time" everyone in the church lost it. (Thankfully, not the treasure, but the tears). Nothing can describe the feelings I have watching and listening to him sing it verus anyone else. His expressions shout to you that he has a treasure waiting and you can too!!

Speaking of "feelings", once again "The Uniform" touched me as no other song does. Every American should hear and really listen to the words, and every Christian should live by them. Of all the songs you have written, nothing spells faithfullness to both God and Country the way "The Uniform" does.....it WILL be #1. (I don't give hints, yeah, right).

I love you Guys....and will continue to pray God's blessings on His ministry through you.

Listening to God is so easy to do, but so hard to do consistently. We seem to always be so "up and down" about how we live and work in the Spirit.

WOW, you always have the right words that lead straight to the heart of things, close enough to hear Him whisper, what a great testimony, because it IS a sure thing isn't it!!!
Lots of Love, The Humphries Gang
