Just last year I complained that I hadn't see enough snow. I am not complaining anymore. Here's my story.
Our weekend started a day earlier than normal with a revival with our good friend Bro. Jack Lassiter preaching. The location was Chester, SC. We had a wonderful meeting that night yet in the back of our minds was this question, "Will we really get the predicted 3-6 inches of snow?" "Naw" , we thought. These people never get snow.
We were scheduled to be in Rural Retreat , VA the next night. Our route would take us through Charlotte, NC, then to Statesville, NC, up Fancy Gap Mountain, to Wytheville, VA and then to Rural Retreat. They were expecting 1-2 inches and would possibly cancel the date. So, we decided to stop in at our good friend Rev. Randy Kivett's church parking lot and wait overnight until we heard from the promotor in Rural Retreat.
As we approached Charlotte, we started seeing some light snowfall. (Oh, by the way, let me say, that our new piano player from Jacksonville, FL had never seen the snow fall!) But that didn't stop us. We stopped at Waffle House for a late night Chicken melt and some good southern sweet tea. Still Snowing!
We drove on to Bro. Kivett's church and parked. Still Snowing. We were settling in for the night, looked out...about 1 inch of snow. Still Snowing!
At 8:00 AM the next morning, my phone rang. the promoter from Rural Retreat said he must cancel the date. Only about an inch or two of snow, but the high will only be about 15 degrees. I politely say that I am sorry, we will reschedule and I hang up. I walk to the front of the bus and look out. It has has stopped snowing, but we now have about 6-7 inches of the powderey white stuff. I can't believe it. i turn on the news and much to my dismay, Charlotte, NC is shut down. We are stuck. The temperature was about 13 degrees and would fall to about 4 that night.
We realized by late afternoon that we were going nowhere and had to call and cancel our next date in Hazle, KY. Oh well, let's make the best of it. What's the next best thing to singing? EATING!!!! I happpened to have my 4WD and Libbi, Justin and I went shopping. She bought us a big ole' roast with all the fixin's. She bought homemade cornbread. She bought coleslaw and macaroni salad. And to top this off, she bought Sweet tea. Now that was for our Friday meal. For Thursday night, she put together us a big ole' pot of vegetable soup. MMMMMMM!!!!! So back to the bus and to our crock pot, to put it all together. Now, let me tell you something, that girl can cook. We feasted like kings.
Well, I hate we didn't make those two dates but I sure did enjoy all of Lib's cookin'! We did finally get out late Friday evening and made our way to Muncie, IN for Saturday and then to Scottsburg, IN for Sunday. All is well! On the road again!
I woke up Sunday morning, looked out the window , "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT.....IT'S SNOWING!!!!!!!
Until next time,
Curt Davis
