New Ground - Cruising - Somebody Has To Suffer

Hi Everyone,

It's been full steam ahead since the first of the year - this is the busiest January on the books for New Ground - and we are loving every minute of it!!!

We started out the month near home - well matter of fact the entire month was close to home except for the Cruise. Ronnie Day and the fine people at the Hodge Baptist Church was our first stop. We love Ronnie - we met him way back in 1975 when I was a cheerleader for Madison County High and he was a basketball player for Pisgah High - and so many times we have talked about how far the Lord had brought us and the paths that He has placed out feet on - we are so blessed. From there it was a straight shot to Huntsville. Chase Baptist Church is one of the best singing churches in the world - the people know how to enjoy a singing!!! Thanks to David Locke, Pastor Johnson and the Gulley's for all your support - we love ya'll.

The second weekend - it was good to be in Scottsboro with the crew from the Reach Organization and it was fun to share the stage with the Regents, Free Spirit & Nat Cisco. Even our great friend Mickey Bell from WZCT radio station was the MC for the night - and he did a great job!!! If you are ever in the Scottsboro area - tune into AM 1330 - Mickey has got a kickin' morning show!!!! Load the bus and onto Haleyville, Alabama - the home of WJBB radio - Larry, Brian and Robert handle the duties at this station - and we were glad to be in their hometown at New Prospect Baptist. Angie & Bill Clark and Steve Knight all came out to be with us - good to see ya'll!! Sunday found us in Detroit - I bet you didn't know that there was a Detroit, Alabama - it's surely not a big place - but an awesome church with a BIG spirit for the Lord. Pastor Gilbert was out of town at his Grandmother's funeral - and we missed his family - but we still had a great time serving the Lord in song. We finished the weekend near Cullman, Alabama with Brother Lonnie Skinner and the great people at Etha Baptist - now this preacher is a hoot - lots of fun - and we are looking forward to going back really soon!!

The next weekend was a special time spent with friends of our group. We met Marlin & Glenda Burnett and their granddaughter Brittany at O'Charleys in Birmingham for a lunch and great time of fellowship - they even brought us our Christmas gifts - Christmas gifts are just as good in January!!! Then off to the Shiloh Baptist Church with Steven & Haley Nichols - this is a young couple that is definitely on fire for the Lord!!! We had a great time and they even booked us back for their Homecoming - Yeah!!! We were also so surprised to see the Curtis' and the Dunn's - special friends of New Ground!!! Sunday morning found us at our friends, the McDowell's Church. Pastor McDowell and his family were over the Goose Pond Church of God here in Scottsboro for a few years and have moved to Heflin, Alabama - we truly enjoyed being with them again and they booked us for their Homecoming - Yeah!!! Anniston, Alabama was calling us and our friends Orval and Jerri Motes met us on Sunday afternoon and took us to their beautiful home for a awesome meal - now that Mrs. Jerri can cook!!! She even sent the leftovers with us - and I was still eating on the delicious food three days later. They are the neatest couple - and have the neatest house - decorated in Mickey Mouse!!! Later that night we sang at the Fairview Heights Northside Baptist Church where Anthony Rhodes (former Bass Player for Perfect Heart) is the Music Minister. This was our second visit to this church and Anthony says it won't be our last - can't wait to be with them again!!! Also, we had a very special introduction that night - Anthony's son Dawson wanted to introduce our group - and he did great - he's an awesome kid!!

Cruise - did I say somebody has to suffer for the Lord - yep - the Bahamas are calling me. We are so excited about being a part of the Sonshine Promotions Tour - I will write about this fun filled week next month and tell you about our final weekend in January!!

Make sure that you come and see us when you can!! Check out our web site at http://www.newgroundministries.com
