The Quicks -Do As I Do!

My husband, Tim, is famous in our hometown for his driving ability – he’s vehicularly challenged - he’s had more wrecks than Liz Taylor’s had husbands.  My Dad once said, “It’s not that Timbo drives off the edge of the road – people do it all the time.  The problem with him is that he stays there for two or three miles throwing gravel before he decides to get back on the road.”  Tim has even managed to flip a car upside down.  I’m aware that may have happened to other people before… but in a Carwash?!  After spending two hours on the way home from a weekend singing in Indiana - listening to Tim tell me how to drive, where to turn, and what lane to be in - I decided to get a little relief from the barrage of instructions.  Rebecca needed an Indiana keychain to add to her collection, so I pulled over at the first truck stop I could find.  Tim stepped out of the van and immediately walked head-on into a street sign.  As his hat went flying down the hill, he began to rub his head where a bruise was obviously appearing.  I resisted the urge to roll down the window and give HIM instructions on where to turn and how to walk… “Wives submit yourselves to your husbands…”

Matthew 7:3 contains these valuable words.  “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?”  I have had people who cheat on their taxes try to tell us how to handle the finances of our ministry.  I’ve seen doctors who smoke, Sunday School teachers who don’t read their Bibles, and single parents with live-in companions that seem surprised when their teenager rebels.  I’ve seen other people do a lot worse and I’ve been there too.  “Children learn what they live” is the title of a poem that was given to me when my girls were little.  My parents smoked, my grandparents smoked – along with all my aunts and uncles on both sides of the family.  I began smoking at an early age, but finally quit seventeen years later on November 1, 1998.  When I told my girls that smoking was bad for them, I could say it with a clear conscience.  I now try to live my life knowing that what I “do” will speak louder than what I “say.”

I’m always telling Tim he has no right to tell me how to drive until my driving record is worse than his.  I’m definitely a good driver – def… def… definitely a good driver.  I love you, Tim – go get an icepack.

till next time…
Sally

I have no problem with Tim's driving. He has taken me all over the area, and, although I still have no idea where all we went, I arrived safe and sound to all destinations.... so, I, in utmost defense of the Timmeister, categorically deny all allegations of.... what was I talking about?.... oh, yeah, all allegations of driving erroneously and haphazardly throughout all of the great state of Tennessee, or wherever in the world he took me that day......
