New Ground - Hot Summer Sings & Brand New Release

Hi Everyone,

This is our very first Artist Article and so bear with me while I learn the ropes on what to write and share with each of you about our travels as New Ground. I'm just so thankful to the Unthanks/SoGospelNews for giving our group this opportunity to share our happenings with each of you!!

July found us beginning the month off with the great people at the Casey Jones Park in Jackson, Tennessee. As most of you know, this is the restaurant that Dr. Buck Morton has his monthly singings and supper - well, did have them - we have found out that Dr. Buck and Mrs. M. have taken a church in Pontotoc, Mississippi so the night we were in Jackson was his last night - but continue to check out their schedule as Gospel Music will still be alive each first Thursday night!!

By this time we were gearing up for our 10 Year Homecoming Sing. This was the first time we have ever had an outdoor Homecoming and it could not have been any more beautiful than that Friday, July 11th. Our special guest included Southern Image from Tupelo, Mississippi, Free Spirit from Scottsboro and some of our greatest singing friends - The Perrys!!! Everyone did an awesome job, but those Perry's just keep getting betterer and betterer - is that a word???? Their new release - "Calvary Answers For Me" is definitely a chart topper!!! The next time you see the Perry's - ask Libbi about her flashing toe ring!!

From Scottsboro it was on to Tupelo, Mississippi for the Southern Image Homecoming with their special guest, Tony Gore!!! Ain't he a hoot!! Tony is an awesome singer and remains one of the greatest crowd pleasers around!! People just can't get enough of Tony's singing!!! He's also a great friend!!

But we can't forget one of the biggest highlights of the month - the SoGospel Convention - now you are talking about a class act - this was just exactly what the Unthanks promoted - a Class Act Concert. It was also so good to meet lots of people from the list and message board and to see our forever friend - Bob Whitehead!! Hey Unthanks - don't forget us for next year - hint, hint!!

We finished out the month near home - we took off the final Saturday night of the month and attended the James D. Vaughn Singing in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee and saw such great groups as the Dove Brothers, Inspirations, Kelleys and Brian Free & Assurance - had to go see our former piano player, Josh Simpson. Josh plays piano for BFA and he is doing an awesome job - we are so proud of our Josh!!! Also, it was good to see Foxy Griffin, Monty & Laura Gilliam, Little Rick from WZPQ and the awesome singer, Josh Franks, the winner of the Crabb Family Homecoming - be watching for this young man on the gospel music scene full time very soon!!! He is a fabulous singer and has the greatest personality!!

Before I go, I gotta let you know about our latest radio release entitled "Hands Scarred By The Nails". This was a song written by Dale's best friend, Nick Holman. We sure hope this powerful and moving song impacts everyone's lives as it has touched ours in so many ways as we sing it night after night at churches and concerts across the nation. Call you local radio stations and request this song!!

Looking for great singings and fellowship in August - hope to see you at one of our events!!
