52nd Annual National Quartet Convention Concludes In Louisville

Louisville, KY - Organizers of the 52nd Annual National Quartet Convention are referring to the 2009 event as one of the most successful since moving to Louisville 15 years ago from its former home of Nashville, TN. Friday saw record attendance at the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center, as the day featured a wide array of showcases and musical extravangas. The more popular day-time events included the “Song of a Lifetime,” featuring multi-award winning songwriter Phil Cross and the Greater Louisville Mass Choir, as well as the “Piano Extravaganza,” with Kim Collingsworth and popular international television personality, Dino Kartsonakis. Additionally, an estimated crowd of more than 4,000 attended the morning
Showcase with internationally known author and speaker, David Jeremiah. On Friday evening, by the time multi-Grammy Award winning recording artist, The Gaither Vocal Band, took the stage in Freedom Hall, not a seat could be found. Many attendees viewed the performance via live large video screens placed throughout the North Wing Exhibit Hall. “Across the board, attendance records were set at all the afternoon showcases,” NQC Executive Vice President, Clarke Beasley commented on Saturday evening. “We matched an all-time record in exhibitor participation and the evening concert attendance overall was very close to attendance records. We feel blessed the show succeeded to the extent it did this year.”

The final day of NQC 2009 kicked off at 8am on Saturday, September 19, with the first Annual NQC Cancer Walk, hosted by popular singer, songwriter, author, radio host and cancer survivor Janet Paschal. Representatives from the American Cancer Society were on hand, as the event raised more than $2,250. “We were absolutely thrilled by the response this event received,” Paschal stated. “We were so grateful for the support of all those who participated, and we are looking forward to this becoming an annual event here at the NQC. I am honored to be a part.”

Throughout the day, music rang from throughout the grounds of the KFEC. Highlights of the day included the “Cathedrals Remembered” Showcase, honoring one of Southern Gospel Music’s legendary quartets, as well as the Comedy Showcase, featuring popular comedian Ken Davis.

Saturday night’s highlight was the presentation of the Annual Singing News Fan Awards. Top honors were awarded to The Booth Brothers, who took home eight individual and group Awards, including Favorite Artist, Favorite Album and Favorite Song. Other top honors were awarded to Ivan Parker, who received the Favorite Soloist Award and Kim Hopper who received both the Favorite Female honor and Favorite Soprano. Plans are already underway for the 2010 National Quartet Convention in Louisville. The event will take place September 12 through 18. Complete information will be available online at http://www.natqc.com
