I remember the feeling of supporting each other when I was a student at the Steve Hurst School of Vocal Performance and Ministry. This time I was an instructor on staff, so I was able to sit back just a little and gather in excitement as all the artists worked together.
Working together is a little deceptive. These artists were cheering each other on. They were each genuinely hoping that the other group or artist would be a smashing hit while they performed. I saw this in their performance training classes from the very first day.
They were applauding each other with true appreciation for the talent of the other artists.
On Tuesday, the staff members, along with their groups performed. This included The Browns, Sunday Edition, Hope's Call, Melissa Brady, and The Daryl Williams Trio. Not only were the students cheering the staff on, but the other staff members were on their feet cheering and praising God as these artists performed.
Then on Thursday night all of the groups at the school that were learning and being trained to do a better job in their ministries were allowed to perform. Wow, that same spirit of cooperation was so apparent as they cheered for each other. By the time Friday came, those groups were in their performance training classes totally enthralled in the other groups performing. They were clapping with the songs, shouting with the songs and crying with the songs. It was so neat as the Spirit of the Lord was moving in those classes, and people were being blessed, all because each person wanted the other group to succeed. My, how God blesses that kind of attitude.
Do you see where this is going? Why can't this spirit of cooperation, and desire to see the other guy be more successful than me, be prevalent in the major artists as they perform today? I promise you that if this attitude were as strong as it is at the School, our genre would be limitless in what it could do and the people it could reach. I really think that the Spirit of the Lord would permeate our concerts and church services as strong as at the School. I really think that this great music that we all love could learn a great deal from these up and coming groups.

You are so right -- it is the way it SHOULD be. I have seen the jealousy and back-biting with other groups and it is so sad. May God forgive us for our childish ways and spiritual immaturity. May we find the strength to be more encouraging and appreciate each other -- the way it should be. Thank you for the article!
Deon you are right. When the food gets scarce, the rats turn on each other (sorry for the analogy). The reason there is so much in-fighting is because everyone is fighting for what they perceive to be the few bites of SG income out there. It just shows that there are way too many who are paying lots of attention to the money and not so much attention to the kingdom of God.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit

Great aricle, Deon. It's sad to say that, as born again, blood-washed, Bible-believing Christians, the concept of mutual respect and mutual support shold be a "given." The scripture says that we must esteem our brethren more highly than ourselves. The word "minister" after all, comes from the Latin word for "servant."
Amen. We are in ministry not competition. If you are singing as ministry money is just a blessing not a demand. I know there are those who make thier living singing, ( I hope to oneday), but we need to do what we do for God in Faith, trusting Him to meet our needs. I also beleive there is room for everyone God calls!!!! Perhaps some should reconsider why they are doing this at all. Competition and jealousy has no place in Gospel music and Ministry. If your worried that I may sing one more song than you, or a concert you did not. you have no place in the Ministry of music. The Bible teaches us to prefer our brother! Now someone else can have the soap-box
