Lamp Music Group Artist Spotlight

The Diplomats Quartet

This month’s Lamp focus is on Gospel Heritage Recording artist: The Diplomats Quartet of Carrollton, GA. The Diplomats Qt may sound like a familiar name – it should. The original Diplomats were a popular group back in the 60’s and 70’s! One of the original members was Jimmy Pearson. After singing full-time with several groups, he felt that it was time to revive the Diplomats name.

In the 10 years since the revival of The Diplomats Quartet, God has really opened the door for them to minister the Gospel not only in church events but many other types of concerts. The Diplomats have also become quite successful with their regional concert promotions in West Ga. Working with many of today’s most recognizable artists, they frequently have sell-out concerts!

Lamp Music president, and group producer, Mike Pillow said recently, “God is really blessing this group in concert . . . it’s been a long time since I’ve seen God use a group to captivate everyone in the congregation. From the first song to the last performed in a way that keeps people intently focused and then presented given the presentation of the Gospel! - - it really is incredible!”

In addition to handling the MC work for the group, Jimmy Pearson, is also an accomplished songwriter and has many popular songs that the Diplomats perform at every concert. Jimmy’s original songs have also been recorded by other quartets like the Florda Boys and others.

The Diplomats have also enjoyed a successful long-term relationship with Lamp Music Group starting with their Mountain Top Records projects dating back to 1999. The Diplomat’s Jimmy Pearson shares, “I have known Mike and Rhonda of Lamp for many years and we have seen, through God’s leadership, Lamp become one of the most respected labels in the industry . . . I have worked with many companies over the years, and Lamp treats us just like family. Plus God has also helped them build the best production facility in Gospel Music - - nobody knows PRO-Tools like Lamp!”

2005 has already been an exceptional year for The Diplomats - - Early in the year they signed an agreement with Lamp to produce their brand new recording, “Go Down To The River” on the Gospel Heritage Label. Their debut single shares the name of the project and features group member Corey Pearson on the lead. At radio now on the Lamp Sampler Vol 27, the new single is receiving tremendous airplay all across the country!

Each member of the group brings a special talent to the group to create the powerfull sound of The Diplomats. Group members include: Jimmy Pearson, Rita Pearson, Corey Pearson, Kevin Cooke, Lamar Newton.

Several great upcoming events are already on the schedule including The Diplomats 2005 Homecoming on June 18th at Fullerville Baptist in Villa Rica, GA. with special guests: Mark Trammell Trio and The Kingsmen Qt.

Call your local Gospel station and request the brand new single, “Down To The River”
For bookings and scheduling, the group is represented by Rhonda Pillow of the PCA (Pillow Creative Agency (770-832-0853)

My husband and I met the Diplomats about six years ago,and believe me there has never been such an annointing group of Gospel singers as these people. If you go to one of their concerts,
and don't get A Blessing from God through their
singing ministry, then there is something wrong with your blesser, and you best better get down on your knees, and re new your Blesser.
Jimmy and Rita Pearson, and the rest of the Diplomats are the most dedicated group of gospel singers you could ever want to hear.
God Bless you All in your Singing Ministry,as
you carry the word of God around the world in
songs. We Love You,Shirley & Will

First Class. Talented. Real. Genuine. Anointed.

Those are just a few of the many adjectives that could be used to describe this dynamic family quartet from West Georgia. They are consummate professionals in every way, and it is a pleasure to have had them grace the stage of my concerts several times. I'm equally grateful to call them my friends! Looking forward to having them on Mercy Road's Homecoming Concert in Dallas, GA on September 9, 2005.

Wonderful group with a great spirit of giving for the Lord. They are truly entertaining with their songs and their stories. We have truly enjoyed their visits to our church.

My husband(Don) and I were honored to have the Diplomats as guests this past weekend. We have known Jimmy, Rita and Corey for a long time and we love them dearly. Kevin and Lamar became dear to our hearts this weekend. They are genuine on and off the stage and their love for God is evident just by talking to them. When you put the five of them on stage, you can feel the love that they have for each other. Their harmonies are so tight and their stage presence is wonderful. So many people from Mission Baptist Church in Woodstock, AL have commented that Sunday's homecoming was the best they have ever had! The church enjoyed them so much that they booked them for next year's homecoming. What a blessing they are and we are proud to call them "friends". I would encourage you to attend one of their services and I can guarantee that you will leave blessed. May God keep his blessings on the Diplomats and may they continue to share that blessing with others. We love you -Jimmy, Rita, Corey, Kevin and Lamar!

The Diplomats are a wonderful group . I have been following them for 25 plus years and they are the same today as they were when I first met them (nice people). If you haven't heard them sing and witness to the Lord, go hear them one time...I promise it won't be your last. The Diplomats are one of the best groups around....they can ever more sing!!!

The Diplomats are a very professional, and spirit filled group. I would book them on ANY event that would be willing to have them, and not have to worry how they conducted themselves on or off stage. They are a class act in my book.Jimmy, keep up the good work, and thank you for all you have done for me over the years.

We have been blessed several times at our church by the Diplomats! It seems to me that they have continued to hone God given talent! What we considered good has just gotten better with time! I am glad to see them get the attention of The Singing News, as well as your broader spectrum of readers! We sincerely hope the quartet will "Keep on Keepin on"!

  12.    Otmer Horn ~ 05/17/2005

The finest in Southern Gospel music, that phrase comes to my mind when I think of the Diplomats. We met them a few years back while they were in concert at Bible Baptist Church in Jasper, Tn.

I recommend them highly and I guarantee that you will not be disappointed in their music nor their testimony. They are among my very favorite singing groups of all time.

If I had to describe them in one word, it would be "Quality".

The Diplomats utilize the ability which God has given them through Music to glorify the Name of Jesus with excitment and so much love---As Music Director of a Local Church--we have seen many "Gospel" groups come and go---but not any with the sincerity in edifying the Name of Jesus and effectively reaching lost souls as the Dipolmats---Thank you Jimmy Pearson for being obedient to Gods calling on your life and "Keeping your singing Ministry going"

The Diplomats new project "Down To The River" is awesome.
Every selection on this new project will bless your heart. As Jimmy says at so many of their concerts "It is off the chain." I am so blessed to have these wondeful people in my life.

  15.    Greg Nabors ~ 05/17/2005

The "Diplomats" have been a blessing as much as they have been blessed. I have them booked to sing at the small country church where I'm Asst. Pastor and, to be honest, I can't wait. I have been hearing their song "Go Down to the River" regularly and I love it.
They have shown that it doesn't take a big stage or cathedral to sing and bless the people with God's word. Sometimes this is the only way that people hear the word.
Good luck, Diplomats, and I pray God continues to bless your ministry through music.

We had a wonderful time and a very spiritual time also. The lord was with the group and with the congregation. It is really a blessing when you start praying for the singing groups before they come because you come expecting a blessing. We thank The Diplomats for blessing us on May 7th, 2005. It was a great Mothers day present. Always remember that you are always welcome at West-Awtrey-Wood Church(Ha-Ha).
    Love all you,

We met the Diplomats 7 years ago and were truly blessed by their beautiful voices, passionate testimonies, and their sweet and caring spirits. My daughter was priviledged to sing with them on several occasions and they always made her feel so special and loved. It has truly been a wonderful experience knowing them and the work they do for the Lord. May they continue to carry out the Lord's work and be fervent in the declaration of their ministry.

It's hard to say everything I would like to say about the Diplomats. They are very dedicated to our Lord. I have been honored to know them for a long time. I would like to say thanks for all you have done for me. May God bless you all.

We have known the Diplomats for about 10 years now and we think they are as good as any pro group out there. First of all they have an awesome stage presence and professionalism that makes you want to hear what they have to say. Secondly, they are anointed and make a point to minister at every concert. Jimmy, Rita, Corey, Kevin, Lamar WE LOVE YOU!!!

What a dear, dear family the Pearsons are. We love them all. We have had them many times at Central Baptist and have gone all over to see and hear them. Jimmy, Rita, Corey, Kevin & Lamar truly love the Lord and their mission is to Spread God's word, not entertain. What a blessing they are. We know you have a hard road to travel and our prayers go with you all the time. May God bless and keep you all. We'll see you soon.

In this day and age, it is so refreshing to see a group live and practice the message they present on stage. We have supported this Godly group for the past few years and have grown to love them as tho they were family. We have seen them place their faith and trust in God through hard times as well as through good times. They are a wonderfully talented, fine Christian group and would be an asset to any service. Always know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Keep up the good work.

It has been my pleasure to have known Jimmy and the Diplomats for several years. I consider them as good friends as well as a great southern gospel group. Their talent is second to none and their dedication to Our Lord and this music ministry is to be highly commended. I may not be able to attend as many of their concerts as I would like but even so they are still one of my favorite groups. If you are not familiar with them or have never attended one of their concerts you have surely missed a blessing.

  23.    Scott Garner ~ 05/18/2005

I've known Jimmy, Rita, & Corey for many years now, and they are true servants of our Lord Jesus Christ. It's been an honor to work with them in many concerts and see how they allow the Spirit of God to move through them and their songs! You can tell they know of whom they sing, and their desire is to share Jesus with everyone at their concerts. As a Singing News Charting station for 12 years, I can honestly say the material the Diplomats are recording and sending out to radio is top quality and any Program Directors reading this should listen to "Go Down to the River" on Lamp Volume 27. Our listeners have lit up the request line for this song since we began playing it, and I'm sure your listeners will love it as well. To any Pastors or Music Ministers reading, the Diplomats are a group you can trust to do a wonderful job of ministering in song to your congregation. They truly live what they sing, and the Spirit of God moves in their services. Keep up the good work guys, and God Bless!

I have known Jimmy with the Diplomats for a long time (going back to early childhood). My husband and I have been to several of the Diplomat concerts and plan on going to many more. We are truly blessed each time we hear them. They are a very talented christian group who really enjoy singing and witnessing for the Lord. They are one of the best quartets you could listen too. Looking forward to the concert in Villa Rica,Ga. God bless your group, Jimmy. Keep up the good work. We love you.

I have always enjoyed the Diplomats, but I think they are better now, than they have ever been. There new single "Down to the River," is awsome. I believe that this group has followed the Lord in everything move they make. It is time for them to reap the harvest. May God continue to bless their ministry. We will see all you guys at your (diplomats) homecoming on June the 18th.

I am a promoter,DJ,VJ, and a part time gospel singer. I have been knowing The Diplomats for a very long time,(since Corey was small maybe I should say Young).I have had the honor of booking and working with The Diplomats in concerts and local church singings on many occasions. They are always professional and respectful in their ministry.I love their new single "GO DOWN TO THE RIVER".I get request for this one almost every week. The guys are good singers but my favorite is Rita. When she sings the song "God walks the dark hills",you can close your eyes and you would think sister Vestal was singing. If The Diplomats are in you're area you owe it to yourself to go hear them.

    Much Success!

Jimmy Pearson is the Icon of Southern Gospel Music In the west Georgia and east Alabama area. His hard work and dedication to his music ministry is very evident. He and his family have a top quality quartet sound and they don’t have to take a back seat to any professional group in the industry. They use the talent that God has given them to uplift His name and to encourage Christians all over the Southeast. Lamar Newton is the best pianist that I know and adds the finishing touch to a truly great group.
We’re glad that we can call them our FRIENDS
    God Bless "The Diplomats"

I remember Jimmy all the way back to him being put up in a chair to sing (actually before that)...he can still carry a tune...with the help of his family, Kevin and Lamar. Their group is an inspiration to everyone who listens with their heart. With their ministry of music, many hearts have been given to God. Every one must hear their latest..."Down To The River", written by Jimmy and featuring Corey. You must see them!!

I have known the Diplomats for many, many years. Just recently though I went to see them in concert for the first time in a long time and I thought to myself that I'd forgotten how good they were. They grabbed my attention from the moment they hit the stage until the last note was sung. Good spirit, strong vocals, and full of energy, energy, energy! And not only are they talented, but they are great people, and I am proud to call them friends.

    Love you guys!

We have been acquainted with the Diplomats (Jim,
Rita and Corey Pearson) for about 3 years. It has
been our privilege to hear them on several occasions and each time we have been truly blessed
and encouraged through their ministry in song,
music and personal testimonies. We are looking
forward to having them back at our church for
homecoming this fall and pray that God will
continue to bless them and their ministry.

Out of all the years I have been following gospel music, and have become very concern about why some groups are really not what they seem to be. The Diplomats has restored my faith in the love for this music and I will go here them everytime they are in my area

  38.    Jason Singleton ~ 05/31/2005

The Best Yet! Thats how I would rate the new recording from this fine family group from Carrollton GA. Having traveled with the Diplomats for over two years as a band member, you really get to know someone for who they are within a 45' bus and they are truly geniune for the cause of Christ when it come to sharing the gospel through southern gospel music. This project really highlights some of Jim Pearson's song writing, which I think is some of his best. They have featured their son Corey on several songs and he is doing a fine job of stepping up to the plate and singing. Kevin has done a really good job of coming in and learning his part and blending well on this new project. Rita is the icing on the cake for this family group, she knows how to deliver the song and connect with the people. Having Lamar Newton to compliment this project on stage only rounds out this exciting family group as one of the best SG groups traveling today.

I have known the Diplomats for going on 4 years now. I am more than impressed with this group. I have sang gospel music all of my life, and have had the previlige to meet some of the "greats" The diplomats are without a doubt the best four part family group out there. It is not often that you see an invitation at the end of a southern gospel concert. The reason is the groups know that know would respond because they did not present the gospel, just a show. I have never seen the diplomats when they did not have an alter call filled with people repenting before almighty GOD! What a refreshing sight to see this group and to hear their music on CD. Thank you Southern gospel news for featuring this incredible group. I guess the Singing News is to out of touch to feature a group as spiritualy based as this one. THANKS!

I would like to say again , If anyone paying attention look at these comments giving to this great group and you will understand why I said what I did in my first comment. There is no reason why this group should not be praised for the hard work that they do

They are like family to us. We've had them in our home many times over the years and we still enjoy having them in our home. They are such a blessing to our family and they'll never know how much they mean to us. May God continue to bless the Diplomats and watch over them as they travel singing and witnessing for our Lord. The Diplomats are very good friends of mine. One of the best sounding and most entertaining groups on the road. I had the honor of playing on their newest cd. I really don't know why, because Corey is one of the best bass players I've ever heard...not to mention a phenomenal singer. I'm glad to see them finally getting a little bit of press. Well deserved!

I am very new into southern gospel music and the first couple of concerts I went to I was not inpressed at all. I did not want to go back. My wife talked me into going to one that was close to the house. I went there with the intention of being bored and miserable. As the program went on I found myseft laughing and crying and I even stood up and clap my hands, my wife was at awe. Thanks Diplomats for a great night, and I love your music

I have known the Diplomats for several years and was privileged to travel with them for a weekend a couple of years back. I have stayed as a guest in their home and you won't find any sweeter people. They treated me as one of their own.

Though I haven't had the opportunity to see them lately, I urge you to see them in concert if the chance arises. No other words can describe them except "Blessed"!

It was so good to find the Diplomats on this site, I truly am a big fan of Diplomats and hope to see them futher there ministry. They are truly a great group. If you have a chance go out and see them and then tell me who do they remind you of. Rita is by far the most underrated female singer out there now. Not only does she have a great voice but a spirit that will bless you inside out

I thought Southern Gospel Music was dropping its value a little until I heard the Diplomats sing on a Sunday night , Not only did there MC have us all laughing and enjoy ourseft, He also had a alter service at the end of the concert that was so unbelieveable you would have had to be there to fill Gods present. These folks can sing , I wish everybody could have been at that Sunday night sevice. Go hear this Group when you hear that they are in your area.

I remember the 'Dips' back in the '70's. Before they were the Diplomats, they were the Lancers. Jimmy wrote some good songs for the Lancers in those days -- well ahead of their time. They were more Contemporary then. Duane Allen of the Oaks was a big fan.
I haven't really seen the new line-up, but I'm thrilled to know they are still "Coming On Strong"(title of their very first record in 1972).

I was just at Harmaony Baptist Church where the Diplomats sang tonight. I had never herad this group before and I want to tell them just how much I enjoyed the singing tonight. What a blessing it was.
My God keep blessing this group and let them keep singing Gods praises everyday.
