There is only one word to describe this young exciting group.
WOW!!!!!
After you hear this family perform, you will be wondering if there is any end to their talents.
I thought of another word to describe the Collingsworth Family.
DIVERSIFIED!!!!!
One thing that you will never be at a Collingsworth Family concert is BORED. Just about the time you think you are about to settle into what they are doing, they slip into another style of singing or playing.
They PLAY a great variety of instruments. They not only play them, but they play them very well. Phil plays the trumpet extraordinaire, while Kim not only makes a piano talk, but she makes it speak in several different languages. You will be hard pressed to find anyone, anywhere, who can top Kim's mastery of the 88 ivory keys. Brooklyn and Courtney both play the violins and Phillip is learning the guitar. Little Olivia is still trying to choose the instrument she wants to learn. Needless to say, they have a very broad range to take their performance from, and they use every bit of that range keeping you on the edge of your seat during their concerts.
Oooops, there's another word that describes the Collingsworth Family, they SING with perfect harmony. Not only are their voices individually strong and vibrant, but their blend has that unique family closeness that just cannot be matched.
Not only are their vocals strong and pleasant, but their song selection is most interesting. They sing a great mixture of classic hymns and spiritual songs as well as new material that Kim does most of the writing on.
Phil started his musical journey at God's Bible School and College in Cincinnati, OH. He thought that he would be a music teacher, but after trying it for a while, he decided that God was calling him to a music ministry. While singing with one of the college groups, his sister introduced him to a young lady who was the daughter of the Dean of the college. His first question to his sister was “Does she play the piano?” Phil just knew that God was giving him a wife who would play the piano. As soon as her father would let them date, and as soon as Phil heard her play the piano, he KNEW that Kim was the woman for him. A few years later they were married, and the rest is history. Kim had been using her God given gift of playing the piano for the Lord since she was a very young child, and didn't even start to sing until after they were married and started performing together.
The Collingsworth Family is not from the usual Pentecostal or Baptist background that you think of with Southern Gospel Music. Phil comes from a Wesleyan background, and Kim comes from a Quaker background. They now find themselves ministering in a lot of the Nazarene churches. This religious background gives you some indication of their conservative style of singing and playing Gospel music. While you are going to be thoroughly entertained at a Collingsworth Family concert, you easily see that their goal is to point everyone to Jesus.
For the first several years The Collingsworth Family traveled singing in mostly church revivals, campmeetings and special services like that. In the year 2000 they made the move to the concert setting and have been growing ever since.
I asked Phil who mainly makes up their audiences. He quickly responded that they seem to attract families, which in turn keeps young people involved in their music. Their goal is to reach the young families with a message of keeping the family together with a spiritual bond. They are wisely building a fan base of young families. Now that is the way to keep a group running on the road for a long time.
This fine group recently did a Christmas tour in Kosovo, where they ministered to the US Troops. They have already been invited to return for ministry again. Southern Gospel groups and artists could learn a lesson from this group. They are reaching out to spread God's message wherever they can.
Two more words that describe the Collingsworth Family.

Phil and Kim are friends of mine and their family is sure to bless you if you ever get the chance to hear them. You really have to see them in concert to truly appreciate their talent and gifts from God. Make sure to stay tuned because they are just getting started!!
Jonathan is so right. I have the distinct pleasure of representing Phil, Kim and their lovely children, in their tour schedule. This wonderfully talented family is already in much demand. Don't miss an opportunity to see them live in concert. It will be a concert full of entertainment and heartfelt ministry.
I have never heard the Collingsworth Family in person, but saw a TV 1 hour special and enjoyed their proformence. I would have thought they were Pentecostal background when I first heard them. However, they are a blessing and their children help to make the family complete. God Bless them.
The first time I heard this family in concert I was amazed! They are every bit as talented as everyone is saying. I do a radio show and my listeners absolutely LOVE their style. If you EVER get the chance to see them, DO IT!!!
I saw part of the TV special also including their trip to sing for servicemen. It was very uplifting. I enjoyed every minute. I have never heard them in person but I hope to soon. It has been a while since I saw such a talented family that represented Christ so well.
I agree with Jonathan. the Collingsworth's are a great family. I love to watch the videos and DVD when a concert isn't close enough. Love you Phil and Kim and kids. PTL for that beautiful RED bus.
The Collingsworths sing with such spirit and gusto that I am lifted every time I'm fortunate to hear them. Whether it's a Christmas song or a hymn (I love the website downloads!!), I feel so blessed! Their family newsletter is a joy, too!
I know Phil and Kim quite well. I went to school with them both at God's Bible School. They have always been excellent musicians and desirous to serve the Lord through their music. We are proud of them and their using their talents for the Lord.
I truly LOVE and appreciate the spirit of the Collingsworth family. They display Christ's love in a beautiful way. I've been priviledged to see them several times in concert with some of those concerts being held at my own home church. They were an inspiration to me and my husband when we decided to use their song "We Will Serve the Lord", as part of our wedding service. God Bless this family and their ministry!
Not only have I known Phil and Kim for several years, but I have also been privileged to host the Collingsworth Family at a concert. Their incredible love for Jesus Christ is presented beautifully in each number they perform. There's no doubt that you will leave the concert in awe at their musical artistry, but more importantly you will also leave aware of the fact that you have been ministered to. I'm looking forward to what God is going to continue to do through their ministry. If you are a pastor or minister of music looking for a high-energy, classy, quality presentation, I highly recommend the Collingsworth Family.
I cannot wait until Kim releases the next piano CD.
Very accurate review. A few more words that describe the concerts I've been to are "standing room only!" There are a lot of fans here in central Pennsylvania. I go to hear them every chance I get.
Praise the Lord for Holy people. The Collingsworth family are a must to hear. If their music does not bless you there is something wrong with your blesser. People like this are few and far between. Love you guys.
Phil and Kim Collingsworth will never fail to lift you to Jesus. Their manner of worship in concert will fill you with encouragement, and leave you breathless in their talent.
Phil and Kim are family to me. (I'm married to Kim's oldest sister, Sandy.) So they are special people to me. But I am also pleased with their passion for genuine ministry to the Body of Christ. God is taking their willingness, increasing their talents, and expanding their influence for the Kingdom. To God be the Glory!
Collingworth Family is great I go to every concert that I Can.
The Phil Collingsworth Family is Gospel Music at its best. The quality is excellent and the emphasis is on the praise and worship of the Lord Jesus Christ. I have heard them sing and play their instruments at the General Conference of the Evangelical Methodist Church in Indianapolis, IN. I would recommend them very highly!- Pastor Vic Caldwell
We had the privilege of meeting Phil and Kim when they were a young married couple - back when he was starting to teach music. We met them again at the Binghamton, New York, Pilgrim Holiness campmeeting in the 90's and were very blessed with their music ministry. We do our best to get to one of their central PA concerts once a year. They are everything you have said and they give God the glory, they really do minister with their music. We really appreciate them.
I have felt (and hoped) for years that Phil and Kimberly were going to have a major impact for the Kingdom of Christ with their music ability. Phil, Kimberly, and their children are some of the very best! Thank you Phil for singing for Deb and I's wedding!
I first heard of the Collingsworth Family thru a client in my beauty salon. I have been to 3 concerts and will see my 4th this Fri eve in Shirley IN. I have all their CDs and videos. They are so enjoyed by all who come to my salon. The uplifting and inspiration is a real blessing. What a wonder they are. They are truly blessed with gifts that glorify God.
Phil and kim are from my home church in Dayton,Ohio that is Phil's hometown.he has been spritual ever since I knew him.you sure can feel the spirt of God when he and his family sings and plays their instruments.
We have known Phil and Kim since college days, and have always felt that their musical talents were outstanding. God is surely using this family in a wonderful way! We are so happy every time we hear more good news about their ministry. May God continue to bless the Collingsworth Family!
I met Kim when she was only 13 and had just released her first of 3 solo piano recordings, I should say albums, back in the "olden days" they really were the vinyl albums.....hehehe
Thanks for article on the Collingsworth family. I've known Kim since she was 12 and am so proud of this wonderful Christian lady & her family... Those who go to their concerts never come away dissipointed with this family that honor God in "Lifting Their Voices".
I say a hearty AMEN to everything Mr. John Kuerth said & well said Mr. Kuerth of this wonderful Christian family.........
I went to school with Kim, and I could not be anymore proud to have known her and her family. She was always talented, and Phil and she have wonderful and talented children. May God bless them everyday for doing his work and spreading his word.
These people, Phil & Kim and family are the real deal! Their music and their lives, both inspire me and my family to higher ground. What a blessing it has been to get to know them!

We have had the Collingsworth family a number of times at our church and recently at the Camden High School for concerts. Now the community is asking when are they coming back? They truly know how to minister in their concerts and are a real blessing, and uplift to our church and community. We look forward to when they will be with us again in 2006. God bless them richly!
I have know the Collingsworths for many years and they just get better every year. The children at first were not able to perform but as they have gotten older they do add another side to the families music. Phil and Kim both most importantly show the love for Christ and they strive to bring others to him through their music. Kim's playing is a wonder to be hold, Phil is a real master at the horn and the girls have really become quite talented on the violins. Phillip has been a real help with the sound board and Olivia only brings a smile to your face. They are a great blessing and I love them all. Thanks guys for the ministry.
I first heard Phil sing and play in trumpet when we were in school together. Kim has been a great help-mate to him. I have to settle for listening to tapes/cds as I drive over the road for a living now. I keep looking for them where ever we might be for the weekend though.
I have known Phil since he was a little boy at camp, his cabin was next to mine, we also attended the same college togather. I have yet to hear them in person, but have them scheduled for Aug. the 7th at the church I pastor in Washington Court House Oh. Looking forward to a time of the moving of the Holy Spirit.
We go to hear The Collingsworth Family every time they are in Pennsylvania. We love their concerts. It is a good family time together. They make you feel like part of their family. They are a very talented family. Thanks Phil, Kim and Family for your wonderful, God centered music. God Bless.
As the host for "Saturday Night In Lakeland," we bring in the top groups in Southern Gospel. The Collingsworths draw the biggest crowds and give a dynamic and exciting musical experience. I predict they will become the top family group in Southern Gospel Music.
Collingsworth Family, Thank you for the update of your concerts. The Gospel Barn is close.I am so disappointed to have a previous commitment. I have all your dvds and cds and play them often. If Sheryln will check to see if you have new ones, I want to order them. I called and left a message. The Osseo Stewart family will be there, I'm sure. Our granddaughter is married to Eric. they have four children. A boy 5, a boy 3, and twins (boy and girl)1.Eric's sister went to college with Kim, I think. Please have Sheryln check on that for me. Anytime you have a new dvd or cd, I'm interested. Thank you and God's Blessings and safe passage to all of you.
The Collingsworth Family ministered in song to us on last Friday night at the Spring Jubilee in Lucasville, OH and I was so blessed! They blew me away with their talent, especially the daughters..they have some of the freshest voices I've heard in a while. Their humbleness and obedience to the Lord really impressed me.
I had never heard or seen the Collingsworth Family, but after reading this article and all these comments, if I can ever find that they will be in my area I'm going to see them.
The Matthew's are real Collingsworth fans! I am both blessed and entertained by Kim playing the piano - what a talent. She is one of the most fascinating people to watch ... and it is all very natural for her. Phil is a great horn player and those kids - WOW! Put them all together and they do a fabulous job. I am so proud of who and what the Collingsworth family represent.
I LOVE to hear the Collingsworth sing, they do such a WONDERFULL job. I think that this review is VERY accurate. Blessings Phil, Kim and Kids.
This is the best group in southern gospel! And that has nothing to do with the fact that Phil is my uncle...ok, maybe a little
DEAR COLLINGSWORTH FAMILY. I ANXIOUSLY AWAIT THE RELEASE OF YOUR NEW CD. I UNDERSTAND IT WILL BE SEPT. 1ST. I WILL WANT IT MAILED TO ME WHEN IT IS AVAILABLE. I PRAY ALL IS AS WELL AS CAN BE WITH YOU AND PHIL'S MOM. SINCERELY AND GOD BLESS, ERCEL JULIAN.
I heard the Collingsworth Family at the quartet convention, and then just 2 weeks ago in Hartville, and wow. what a talented family. I have family members in the Wesylan Faith and most of my family was Quakers, so you come from rich heritage... Love it
