2005 SGN Music Awards Handed Out
Crabb Family, Gerald Crabb, the Isaacs, and Gold City Last Night’s Big Winners

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The 2005 SGN Awards were handed out last night at a special concert celebration in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The Crabb Family was this year’s big winner, winning six awards, including Song of the Year (“He Came Looking for Me”), Album of the Year (Driven), Mixed Group of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year (Kelly Bowling), Progressive Southern Song of the Year (“Greater Is He”), and Best Album Cover (Driven).

Patriarch of the Crabb Family, Gerald Crabb, was awarded three awards last night. He won the award for Songwriter of the Year (Artist) as well as the awards for Song of the Year and Progressive Song of the Year for writing “He Came Looking for Me” and “Greater Is He” respectively.

The Isaacs were also awarded three awards last night. The popular band won the awards for Country/Bluegrass Song of the Year (“Heroes”) and Country/Bluegrass Album of the Year (Heroes). Sonya Isaacs also won Musician of the Year.

Also taking home three awards last night was Gold City. The popular quartet was awarded their first Male Group of the Year as well as Traditional Southern Album of the Year for their latest First Class. Daniel & Doug Riley of Gold City were also awarded Producer of the Year.

Kelly Bowling (of the Crabb Family) was awarded two separate awards last night – Female Vocalist of the Year and as a producer of the Album of the Year (Driven). In addition to Musician of the Year, Sonya Isaacs won an additional award for Country/Bluegrass Song of the Year for co-writing “Heroes.” Doug Riley won a second individual award for solely producing the Traditional Southern Album of the Year, First Class.

2005 marked the first year that SouthernGospelNews.com brought in all the nominees in for one night of great music, fun, and fellowship. The event was hosted by Chris D. Unthank, Chart & Awards Coordinator for SouthernGospelNews.com and co-owner of SSE Group. The evening featured knock-out performances from Gold City, Mike Bowling, Hoskins Family, the McRaes, Gerald Crabb (with special guests the Crabb Family), Three Bridges, Hope’s Call, Christlike, Jonathan White, Calvary Construction Company, Common Grace Quartet, and Higher Hope.

“This was such a great night,” remarked Deon Unthank, owner of SouthernGospelNews.com. “We couldn’t have asked for a better crowd or industry response. We are truly humbled by those that showed up tonight. We only pray that next year’s award show can live up to the standard that this year set.”

The SGN Music Awards are an annual award handed out each year by the staff at SouthernGospelNews.com. Each January, the staff decides upon the nominees in over twenty categories. In February of that year, the readers of the site are then allowed to vote for their favorites. This is the fourth year the awards have been in existence, but it is the first year for an awards ceremony.

The official sponsors for the 2005 SGN Music Awards Celebration were DJ Man Promotions, Lamp Music Group, and Sweetest Song I Know ~ A Tribute to the Happy Goodmans, the brand new solo recording from Johnny Minick.

I am so glad that the fans get to vote on the singing news awards. They are the ones that really count, coming from fans. I don't know who picked the winners, but The Crabb Family and The Isaac's are two groups that I felt like that should have not won!Gold City were the only ones deserving to win! Thank God the fans love The Hoppers,Greater Vision,Rodney Griffin,The Kingdom Heirs,The Perry's, Ivan Parker, and Legacy Five. These are the best in the business!

    Bonnie,

You are entitled to your opinion, however, you must be corrected as the FANS did vote in the SGN Awards and they selected the winners. So, I, too am so glad that the fans get to vote in the SGN Music Awards because those that won deserved to win as they too are the best in the business! smile

The SingingNews awards are limited to votes only by their subscribers. Surely no one thinks that ONLY the SingingNews subscriber's opinions/votes are the ONLY ones that really count. I am a subscriber, but I think a fan who is not a subscriber has just as much value in his opinion/votes as I do.
