We received the following information from Ernie Haase this morning:
It is with great sorrow that I must tell you that our beloved George went home to be with the Lord this morning (April 11th, 2005) at approx. 3:30 am.
We are sad and life will never be the same but we are happy for George. He had been so very sick and in much pain for the last few months but now He is healthier and happier than he has ever been.
More details to follow concerning the funeral.
Please continue to pray for the family.

This is a great loss for SGM.
Mr. George has been an inspiration in my life, and in alot of others lives. I know he is singing with that Great Heavenly Choir!
A great loss. One of the all time great singers.
Younce was without a doubt one of the most memorable personalities in Gospel Music. He was one of the most effective emcees in the business and an excellent bass singer.
I have alot of memories of George as do so many other people. He was a great bass singer, wonderful emcee, and one of the greatest talents to ever come along in gospel music. There will never be another George. He is now home with his Lord that he sang about for all those years.I can just picture J.D saying "What are you doing here?"or something like that.To the Younce family, our prayers are with you during this time.Sincerely,Dwayne Garwood
I have been checking on George's condition for a long time and found out that he has passed away. He will be sorely missed by one and all, but he's now with Glen having fun again.
I will be forever grateful for the impact that George had in my life. My prayers go up for his family.
I could just picture George arriving in heaven, with a huge shout, "Weelllllll, G L O R Y!!!"
I was so saddened to hear of George's death this morning. I got a big smile on my face though when I thought about George being reunited with Glenn Payne and how much fun they were having. He will be greatly missed!!! My prayers are with the entire family.
What a legacy of faithfulness George has left here on this earth!
Our loss is Heavens gain. My prayers are with all of us who loved George and especially his family.
Mr. Younce has been such an inspiration to so many. I loved hearing Him sing "This old house" and "Thanks to Calvary". Wish I could've seen him in person, but I'm glad that he is out of his pain and suffering.
We will sure miss George. He was such an inspiration to all of us for so many years. One day we can join him and our loved ones singing together again with all of God's Singers.I am sure he was met by Glenn. My thoughts and prayers for all of The Younce Family, God Bless, love Carolyn
It is truly a sad day to learn of George Younce's death. Without a doubt he is home in HEAVEN where he longed to go and sang about so often! My deepest sympathy and prayers to his family and the entire Southern Gospel community. May we be as faithful as George was in being a witness to those who do not know Jesus as their personal Saviour.
George blessed my life so many times through the Homecoming videos. It was a great joy to see him in person at a Homecoming concert. When he came out of the audience singing "This Old House", I was almost in the heavenlies! May God be with and comfort his dear wife and family is my prayer. Another soldier's gone Home.
George has reached Heaven and I know he went in with a shout!! Our loss is Heavens Gain. He was my friend and a true Quartet man. He loved Jesus and his family and people. I will always remember the last time I spoke with him he said I love You and I told him the same! God Bless all the Younce family. George has fought the good fight and kept the faith he has entered
GEORGE YOUNCE WAS MY ALL TIME HERO. TO KNOW HIM WAS TO LOVE HIM. I THANK GOD FOR BRINGING THIS WONDERFUL TALENT TO OUR WORLD. I WILL CLOSE WITH SOME WORDS TO GEORGE'S GREAT SONG.
My prayers are with George's family. One of my favorite songs he did on the Homecoming videos was "Beyond the Sunset" His voice will be remembered by SG fans forever.
That great cloud of wintesses has just increased its number. Our thoughts and prayers.
I just loved George. We even shared the same birthday. Glen and George togather again. All them basses, Rex,JD, and George. WOW
What a voice. What an emcee. What a personality. What a LEGEND!
Heaven is sweeter today because George is there! I just had to tell this great little thing that happened to family and I 12 years ago at the Robinson Auditorium in Little Rock. The Cathedrals had sang their hearts out all night long. After the concert, George was greeting fans as he sat on the edge of the stage. When my family finally reached the spot where George sat, I told him how much I loved the old song, "A Child of the King", which they had not performed that night. Well let me tell you, George didn't miss a beat. He sat there and sang the first verse and the chorus just for us!! I will never forget that. What a great man he was!!
Only eternity will reveal the scores of people this great man touched for all the years he served the Lord Jesus in gospel music. I know he touched my life, and for His impact on me I am most grateful. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family in this time of great loss. May God bless you and give you the comfort of His Holy Spirit. I cant even imagine what a great quartet He and Glenn have already put together.
I have been keeping up on George's health.I only know about him from the Gaither videos.George and J.D.Sumner were my favorites. How I will miss them.My prayers are with his wonderful family.God Bless

Thanks to the webmaster and the Younce family for allowing me to share some of their memories. Thank you to the Master for the voice of George Younce.
George Younce. What a blessing to have known and
It was my priviledge to share the stage with George and The Cathedrals on several occasions. The impact George had on my life personally can't be measured this side of Heaven. Our loss is certainly Heavens gain.
George was a truly beautiful man. I had met him a couple of times at the Qaurtet Conventions and you could literally FEEL God flowing from him. He will be greatly missed. But Heaven has gained another remarkable person.
What a loss for us, what a gain in Heaven!
The Cathedrals are not well known in Australia.
Absent from the body present with the Lord.
What a great loss to SGM, put God now has another great voice in his kingdom. I know that George is singing with his old buddy Glenn Payne.
I remember the first Southern Gospel concert I ever attended. I was 11 years old and went to see the Cathedrals in Alexandria, LA. I got to spend about an hour with Danny Funderburk and George Younce after the concert. They made a very big impression on my life. If it had not been for that moment, I do not believe I would be singing today. George, we love you and we will miss you but we are so glad you are finely home.
It was my privilege to see the Cathedral Quartet in person on at least three occasions. Since the area of Illinois I reside in is not a "traditonal" hotbed of SGM, whenever the top groups come here, it is a real treat. One evening, during a concert in Champaign IL, the group took questions from the audience. George called on me, and I asked him to tell us about Big Chief.....and George did, and even did his dead-on voice impersonation. What a faithful servant! What a faithful family man! What a faithful quartet man! He wasn't perfect, but mighty close. Now, no more pain, no more ailments, nothing but being in the presence of Almighty God! Weeelllllllllll.......GLORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am so sorry to here of george going home my prayers go out to the familey . i can see george with all the home coming singers and all the ones that has went before him i knowt5he are all shouting glory glory glory be his name. again my prayers go out to all God bless one and all peggy sumner
Without a doubt, George was one of the best bass singers of all time. He, Glen, Danny Funderburke, Mark Trammell, Roger Bennett, Gerald Wolfe, and all of the other Cathedral members made this group one of the "super-heavyweight" quartets of all time. This group would leave audiences in an awe that matched or even exceeded in some cases the ability of quartets such as the Blackwood Brothers, Statesmen, Kingsmen, Gold City, Stamps, Florida Boys, Dixie Echoes, Inspirations, Palmetto State Quartet, Imperials, etc. George and Glen were the two that were always with this quartet and they made it (the quartet) what it was. Both of them, however, would tell you that none of their success would have even been possible without the Lord. George was not only a great singer, but a great stage personality and a great and humble servant of the Lord. George will sadly be missed, but I know that the great big choir just got a whole lot better. Another legendary personality and voice of Bill Gaither's homecoming videos has "gone home", but we know that our loss is Heaven's gain. God Bless George Younce and his family.
I also mourn at the passing of George Younce, through I'm certain the choir in heaven is improving all the time as God's singers are going home. With each passing, it makes all the Homecoming videos such a deeper treasure. We are so blessed that Bill Gaither has been preserving the voices of the God's gospel choir. My prayers are with the Younce family.
Thanks to George for all the Wonderful memories we all have because of his wonderful singing. God bless his family.
We have followed George's career for many years and are saddened to learn of his passing. Our prayers are with the family and friends. His loss will leave a huge hole that cannot be filled. God Bless.
I am listening to GeorgeYounceOnline memories. George is singing and reciting. What a beautiful memorium. Thank you George Younce and the Younce family. We are sad but so thankful that he isn't suffering any more. God bless you Younce family and comfort you at this time. I always enjoyed George's singing whether by himself or with a quartet. What a blessing he was. Thank the Lord for the memories he made for us to enjoy.
I first met George Younce in 1977 when the Cathedrals were in concert here in Adrian Michigan. I was in awe of his singing and his testimony. Southern Gospel Music will never be the same without this legend and those legends of Southern Gospel. To the Younce Family, I will say this, God Bless each and every one of you as you go through this sad time in your lives. My Prayers are with you.
I sent Birthday wishes to George on his birthday, Now as we say in The Salvation Army George has been Promated to Glory. What a time he must be having in Heaven with all his love ones, and many Gospel Singers who has gone on before him. He will be greatly missed by every who knew him and loved him. Our Prayers go out to all his dear family. We send our love to each of you. God Bless. Harold & Elizabeth Jones
My prayers go out to the family of George Younce. What a blessing he has been to all of us. Thank you for sharing him with us. What a beautiful bass voice. He must be singing up there with all his friends.
I grew up listening to Southern Gospel Music and George Younce was one of the greatest influences on my life. The first ime I ever saw The Cathederals in person, that was all it took! I became an instant fan and have loved them all these years. George had a way about him letting everyone know without a doubt that he was serving GOD and and his life and singing was a great reflection of this. There have been some wonderful people who have sang with The Cathederals thoughout the years and some now have the great groups, such as Legacy Five, Greater Vision,Mark Trammell Trio and Kirk Talley. The generation of groups now need to look back on the great man's life and how he served GOD and how he presented himself on stage. George we will miss you greatly but Heaven just got it's best bass singer there has ever been. I bet you and Glenn are having a time!
I had the pleasure of meeting George Younce when I was a teenager singing with a local southern gospel quartet. He took the time to hear about the ministry we were doing and thrilled that we were serving the Lord. I have never met a more caring man. He will be greatly missed. Welcome Home, George.
Family of Ernie Haase, I never new such a nice
Everyone Loved George Younce. He was a wonerful person, He will be greatly missed as are all the ones gone before him. "How beautiful heaven will be with them all togeather in that Great Big Singing"on the streets of pure gold. Oh what a time they are having! No more pain, No sorrow. They have made a beautiful entrance that we too will make one day soon.Let us pray for the ones left behind. Love and Prayers, Margaret P. McCullough
My thoughts & prayers with the Younce Family. I was saddened to hear that George was gone but, he is with Glen Payne again. We'll see them again one day soon. George will be missed.
