First Love

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Troy Peach. Katy Peach. JP Miller. Together they are First Love. Three distinct individuals from diverse backgrounds coming together to create an uplifting Southern Gospel music ministry. Looking back it is easy to see the hand of God directing their paths as He brought them together.

Troy Peach was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He began playing drums with his family group at the tender age of five. By ten he was singing in revivals led by his grandfather, Reverend Bobby Shelton. Over the next few years he played and sang with several groups and performed nightly on TBN’s Praise the Lord. In 1998 he accepted the position of piano player with the Wilburns. After two years behind the piano, Troy stepped up to the microphone to sing tenor with The Steeles for over 5 years. All along he has had the desire to marry a woman who would partner with him in a music ministry.

In 2001 he met the former Katy Van Horn at a Gaither Homecoming taping. She was then singing soprano for the Nelons, after having a solo ministry for several years in Columbus, Ohio, where she was born. She later sang for 2 years with The Mike Speck Trio, and has been in demand as a studio vocalist. Katy married Troy in December, 2003 and they now make their home in Hendersonville, TN.

imgWhile singing with the Nelons, Katy also met JP Miller, who was working at the Southern Gospel Music Association in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. JP, who is originally from Wolf Summit, West Virginia, teamed up with friend and mentor, Lou Wills Hildreth to host the weekly talk show Inside Gospel on Gospel Music Television. He embarked on a solo ministry while maintaining his involvement with the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home in Sevierville, Tennessee, where he met his wife Tyanne. Katy and Troy became good friends with JP and Tyanne when JP asked them to sing background vocals and Troy to produce his solo project.

Troy, Katy, and JP maintained a friendship which proved to be long lasting that brought them together into the ministry of First Love. These three have all felt the Lord’s calling to begin First Love Ministry. Their message will be evangelism and encouragement. Reaching the lost for Christ through their music is one way to honor their First Love. They want to let Christians know that, though sooner or later we all slip and fall, God’s grace is sufficient. “We want to encourage the weary to return to their First Love.”

“We love him, because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

Though their individual paths have led them around the country and much of the world, God has brought them to this place at this time to do His work. And while this is a Southern Gospel music ministry, First Love’s prayer is that their whole lives reflect God’s love. As JP says, “Our lives are the ministry, not just our music.”
