Zion News - Sep 04

It’s been years since Living Sacrifice has had a full band accompaniment, but Saturday, August 7 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Burnsville, MN, they had a band like never before. A 60-member orchestra and 40-member chorale shared the stage with Zion Artist, LIVING SACRIFICE, as they stepped on new ground to create a musical evening that had the audience on their feet. A gospel quartet, a symphony and chorale performing together was something new for the Twin Cities. "It was truly a privilege to work with the Dakota Valley Symphony in creating this special evening and an amazing experience to be backed by a live orchestra and chorus!" says Patty Dill, pianist and soprano for Living Sacrifice. Planning and preparation started a year ago with a coming together of the musical minds to write scores for the LIVING SACRIFICE songs. The symphony accompanied LIVING SACRIFICE on songs including their radio single and big-band style, "It Feels Good to Feel Good" (Zion Compilation #32) and a favorite of the group, "In God We Trust". The evening continued with the orchestra performing several selections from their Summer Pops Repertoire and Living Sacrifice singing other songs from their past.

"It was truly an experience none of us will forget. And, it was a great opportunity to sing to the Lord and also to give gospel music audiences and the symphony audiences a chance to hear something very different. We loved it!" comments Patty of Living Sacrifice.

imageWe send out condolences to our friend Denny Autry, whose mother passed away in August. Denny directs the music program at Mike Purkey’s church and previously played piano in the McGruder’s band. Carroll McGruder preached Elizabeth Autry‘s funeral. She was a Godly woman and there is NO doubt that she is rejoicing on the other side of heaven’s pearly gates.

Barbara Keller from Lancaster, OH just completed a new project at Oak Valley Studios. Kevin McManus was honored to produce this much anticipated project! Barbara’s daughter Kristen joined her mom in this recording and several of the songs feature Kristen and her own distinctive style. This project was released September the 7th!!

imageOther highlights this month included having Teresa Baker from Pontiac, MI and her three children (Roland, Renee’ and Kimberly) in Oak Valley for a new recording featuring brand new material and absolutely amazing vocals! Their project entitled Heavenly Places will be available Oct. 4th!

HAMMER's avatar My condolences to Denny and his family, Denny is one of my favorite keyboard players of all time. I have had the privilege of playing drums with him on a few different occassions and I just love his style of playing.
