It Don’t Come Easy

There has been a saying floating around for a long time now that would imply that change is good. However, change isn't always easy. And although it's something that isn't exactly foreign to the Blackwood Gospel Quartet, it definitely isn't something we welcome with open arms.

We regret to announce that Daniel, our tenor singer, has decided to leave life on the road due to health reasons. With the uncle/nephew relationship between Mark and Daniel, parting wasn't easy. There was always the possibility of him carrying the Blackwood heritage into the next generation, and that possibility was just beginning to flourish. It's true that Daniel's heart has always been in music, but his passion is in church worship, rather than quartet music.

That brings us to another cross road for the group. Brad has been here for several years and David is just about to finish his first. Mark, of course, has been traveling and managing this group since 2001. It hasn't been an easy road. The Blackwood Brothers, who James Blackwood retired in 2002, put gospel music on the map back in the 1950s. Mark has always wanted to carry on that heritage. He's never wanted to be a tribute group and simply copy what the originals had already done. That was not what the Blackwood Brothers were about. Instead, he's wanted to do something fresh, which isn't always the common thing to do. It's very easy to just go with the flow and go through the motions. However, Mark Blackwood and the BGQ do not possess that frame of mind.

Through the years, Mark has been able to attract accomplished singers like Paul Lancaster, Bryan Hutson, Josh Garner, Dan Keeton, Burman Porter, Jonathan Sawrie and more. You can come up with whatever reason you want to in order to explain that, but the truth is that when you sing in this group, you'll be taken care of. You become a part of our team and we have a blast doing what we love.

That being said, we are going to be looking for a new tenor singer. Paul Lancaster has agreed to fill in temporarily until we find one and we will be slipping in an audition fill-in here and there through the process.
