The Cavaliers Quartet had the honor of recording four of Dianne Wilkinson's works of southern gospel art. During the process of finding songs for our latest project, we met Dianne Wilkinson. She is one of the great ladies of Gospel Music. When you think of her you think of the many many songs recorded by the biggest names of southern gospels past and present. When you meet someone, a lot of times you have to get to know them and sometimes it is like you have known them all of your life. Dianne is one of those folks that every time you see her, or meet her for the first time, she treats you like family (you know, the side of the family you like)! In her words, she is a true blue, dyed in the wool, bible totin, southern gospel gal! When you listen to songs that she has written, you see all of that come through.
I want to tell you about some of her songs. The title track to our current project is "God Is". Dianne states, "I was going up I-40 toward Nashville and heard the great Adrian Rogers preaching about how a person has no power to heal, save, or revive someone from the dead. We can not save our self from sin and death. Who is the only one that can do this; I tell you 'GOD IS.'"
From that point, the words came to Dianne and "God Is" became one of the many songs that God has blessed this wonderful lady with. A lot of times you hear the songs, know the groups that sing them, but wonder where those words came from. Dianne Wilkinson is one of those writers that most every Southern Gospel fan knows.
